Does your family have an emergency plan? Planning for an emergency, either manmade or natural is not just something for government
officials. Preparing for an emergency is something that everyone should consider.
Some of the things to keep in mind when making
your family’s emergency plan;
- Infrastructure disruption
- Communication – How will your family communicate with each other during disruption? Where will you meet if something happens? How will you stay
informed with no electricity for TV or radios?
- Utilities – How will you store food with no electricity? How will
you cook with no gas or electricity? What will you drink if there is no water?
- Roads – How will you get home if roads are blocked or impassable?
- Medical
- If you or a member of your family is taking prescription(s), is there an adequate supply or two to three weeks?
- Do you have your family’s medical history readily accessible?
- Do you keep over the counter medications on hand?
- What would you do for an injury?
- Hygiene
- Have waterless hand cleaner.
- Have tissue, toilet paper and disposable dippers on hand.
- Food / Water
- Have nonperishable food on hand.
- Have bottled water on hand.
Preparing for an emergency is not just for
the possibility of pandemic flu. An emergency may come in the form of a tornado,
flood, or even and earth quake.
